Hybrid (Combination) Surgical Guides
A hybrid surgical guide combines two support surfaces for example tooth and tissue, or tooth and bone so the guide stays stable in cases where a single support type is not enough. It is used for arches with limited teeth, uneven bone, or compromised soft tissue. At Guided Excellence, we design and 3D print hybrid guides reviewed personally by Dr. Zareh Baghoomian. We make the guide; your team performs the placement.

Overview
What Is a Hybrid Surgical Guide?
A hybrid surgical guide, also called a combination surgical guide, blends more than one support strategy into a single template. When an arch has a few remaining teeth plus large edentulous spans, or when bone and tissue quality vary across the arch, relying on one support surface can leave the guide unstable.
A hybrid design takes support from the most reliable surfaces available combining tooth and tissue, tooth and bone, or adding fixation pins to any support combination which improves seating accuracy and stability. Indications
When to Use a Hybrid Guide
Hybrid guides are the answer when the anatomy of the arch makes a single-support guide unreliable. If a patient has a few remaining teeth but large edentulous spans, a tooth-only guide may not seat fully, while a tissue-only guide may be unstable near the remaining teeth. A hybrid takes support from whatever is most reliable in each zone of the arch.

- Best forArches with limited or unevenly distributed teeth where one support type would be unstable.
- Also used whenBone or tissue quality varies across the arch and a single support surface cannot span the whole case.
- GoalCombine the most stable available surfaces for a reliable, one-way seat and high planning accuracy.
Support Strategies
Common Hybrid Combinations
We design the combination based on what the anatomy offers taking support from the most reliable surfaces in each zone.
Tooth + Tissue
Uses remaining teeth plus soft tissue across the edentulous span the most common hybrid for partially edentulous arches with large gaps.
Tooth + Bone
Adds direct bone support in zones where teeth alone are not enough used when the remaining teeth provide insufficient stability across the whole arch.
Pin Assisted Hybrid
Fixation pins add stability to any support combination particularly useful on larger spans where tooth or tissue support alone would allow the guide to flex.
Simple Workflow
How to Order Your Hybrid Guide
- Upload your caseSend the CBCT (DICOM) and intraoral or model scan (STL) through our digital implant planning process. We will evaluate the anatomy and recommend the best support combination.
- Review and approveDr. Baghoomian designs the hybrid support strategy, plans the implant positions, and sends the plan for your approval before production begins.
- Print and shipWe produce the guide in our implant surgical guide lab and ship it in 3 to 5 business days after plan approval.
